The boat was constructed with ease of use, strength and economy in mind. She is tough, graceful, a sweet sailor and very functional, not yachty. Rather, Eos is reminiscent of the days of working sail. She's at home on a commercial dock and constantly draws admiration from fishermen and tug-boaters! She sails very easily and due her deep keel and heavy displacement has a very easy motion in big water and is handily double handed or even single handed with the aid of the autopilot. She heaves to very naturally. She readily handles all points of sail, although being a cutter seems to prefer close reaching best, and tacking is simple with her club-footed jib. Dead downwind runs are achieved with the aid of whisker pole and preventers. She is well flared on her topsides and therefore stands up stiff to the wind. First reef goes in around 25 knots, 2nd goes in around 35 knots. 3 reefs for storm conditions. Full keel, fully skegged rudder and protected prop.
Her interior joinery is very simple, functional and sunny and is set up on an open concept. Companionway leads into bright and airy pilothouse, helm on starboard side, pilot berth on port side. Steps lead down into main area with large functional galley on port side and large settee on stbd which converts to double berth. Continuing forward there is a large head with shower on the port, with berth/counter on stbd, storage underneath. Finally to the V-berth which is huge and comfortable for two, with cubby-holes either side for clothing. V-berth terminates at water-tight bulkhead. Foc'sle is large and has ample room for sails, spare lines, fenders and spare anchors.
Aft of the pilothouse is a self bailing cockpit with 2'' straight drain, propane locker and storage locker either side. Rear hatch leads to lazarette with huge stowage potential.
the designer's philosophy is a no-nonsense approach to very seaworthy boat designs. His sail designs are generally very traditional with no concessions to safety and seakindliness, and no gimmicks. Eos is his "Juna" design enlarged %10 with his consultation. Some sisterships to Eos can be viewed, but keep in mind that Eos is larger and features a Pilothouse.
Eos currently plies the BC coast where her owners live aboard and work as wildlife film-makers and commercial divers. She spends most of her time on the move and at anchor in remote inner and outer coast anchorages. Viewing and sea trials can take place this Summer or Fall at our mutual convenience. We are on the move between Cape Caution and Prince Rupert. Final transaction must take place after October/November. I can deliver the boat anywhere in the Northwest with no fuss. Sale must end in a cash transaction.
We are now in the market for a larger sailboat more appropriate to commercial underwater film-making, diving, and chartering. Trade/purchase combination offers for such a vessel will be entertained.
I am not the builder of the boat, but I will do my best to answer technical questions. More photos to come! Please bring questions (and offers).
Asking $75,000. This boat represents a serious live aboard and cruising value. She needs for nothing and is ready to sail to Alaska, around the Horn, or the world. In fact she is gone right now! We are on the water and in and out of contact. Please be patient if I do not reply for a week or two. It is because I am making passage. All serious inquiries are welcome and will be responded to ASAP. This is a real boat.
Reply to posting or simply call me (Paul) @ (250) 898-3242.
